| Homeowners often confuse termites with ants.
Subterranean termites are found in the earth and often move in straight
lines like ants. People mistakenly call termites "white ants" when they
are spotted on the ground and "flying ants" when they are seen swarming.
In fact, swarmers are often confused with flying ants.
It's important to know the subtle differences between the two pests to
accurately identify termites. While both ants and termites have tow pairs
of wings, the ant's wings will be different sizes while the termites'
wings will be the same size.
Termites will remove their wings after a period of time and, as such,
several wings are usually found when a swarm occurs.
Another difference between ants and termites are the construction of
their bodies and antennas. Ants have narrow waists and elbowed antennae,
while termites have broad waists and short antennae.
Identification Tip!!!
Look at the pest's waist. If the waist is narrow and pinched, the pest
is probably an ant. If the waist is wide or unpinched, and the pests looks
like a "white ant", you may have a termite problem.
